Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Certainly extraterrestrial life exists. The Mathematics and logic is overwhelming. We will discover it when we do. Having read a short sci-fi story at an impressionable age ('How to Serve Humans') - which turned out to be a recipe book - I am naturally cautious. There can be little doubt of the benefits - and of the dangers. Others have expressed this far better than I.
I do not think a homing beacon such a good idea. We might be besieged by tourists, sightseers, medical research teams, and - er.. - chefs. Let's be cautious.
I run SETI@home because I am inherantly lazy. I feel much better watching others work - including my PC.
More seriously I am excited by the prospect of being able to play some small part in this important project. |
