Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The only purpose of human life as I see it is to act as we see fit. 'Thought' or 'Perception' is merely the experienced effect of electronic and chemical interaction in the brain. Such reactions at the smallest level, just at the highest level depend on the laws of physics. As such all events, past precent and future are predetermined. The concept of choice is therefore moot. We work on the SETI project because it was predetermined at the beginning of time. Don't pontificate on the merits of the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence- just do it because we're meant to. In much the same way I was always destined to be typing this, and to go to the toilet before I go home. The argument works for any given situation e.g. people opposing the project.

In short: just do what you do because you are doing it. You are doing what you are doing because it was destined to be done.
