Personal background
I am a 32 year old computer tech. I had a SETI@Home account years ago and now have a decent machine again in which to run SETI@Home.

I've always had a fascination with space exploration and I do hope that one day we do make contact. Then we would truly not be alone in this universe.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think that there is intelligent extraterrestrial life in the universe. As to when and how we will find out for sure, it's anybodies guess. I do doubt that such a discovery will propel the human race into a utopian like civilization, that's just not our way. We have a lot of growing to do as a species. We need to learn to put aside out petty differences and work as a whole race, not as factions.

If a message is to be sent into the great void, a consensus as to what is in the message must be reached by representatives from every culture on the planet. A united message should be sent.

I run SETI@Home in the hopes that a signal from another civilization could be found. Distributed computing is a wonderful idea and will surely reduce the time needed to analyze collected now and in the future.
