Profile: Toby De Burca

Personal background
I'm a 38 year male old from London, England. I work as an accountant (someone has to) for a branch of the Government. I do voluntary conservation work in the nearby forest which is hard but also very rewarding. I haven't travelled very much but I keep promising myself that I will one day. I'm going to attempt to learn another language this year, probably German (I've tried before but gave up).

As I've grown older I've become relaxed about life and I always try to see both sides of an argument as opposed to getting carried away by emotions. I've read some philosphy and a lot of history. I also appreciate comedy and my favourite U.S. TV show is Larry Sanders.

I use a little 600MHz G3 Graphite iMac (OSX) which I enjoy using as my home computer.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The probability is, I believe quite strong. The recent discoveries of water on Mars has re-ignited a lifelong interest in the sublect and this has led me to download SETI@home.

I've always believed that we will not find it but rather it will find us. I'm concerned that such a meeting may have unpleasant consequences as was articulated some time ago by Dr. Stephen Hawking. However we cannot hide as a civilisation because of this fear.
