Personal background

I've been interested in astronomy since May of 1997, when I glimpsed Comet Hale-Bopp while on vacation in North Carolina's Outer Banks. I make yearly pilgramages there, and love the view of a clear, dark sky. I also venture out to the country every November, away from my home in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., to catch the Leonids, and have experimented with astrophotography.

I'm a member of both SETI and the Planetary Society.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

It's ridiculous to even suggest that there ISN'T life on other planets, right? I mean, come on! How special do we think we are, anyway? :)

More and more, we are finding that the building blocks of life are more abundant and pervasive than once thought. It is only time which stands between us and the discovery we crave. We ourselves may not live to see it occur, but it will occur.

Certainly, we should do everything we can to bring that day closer, including transmitting some sort of beacon, a welcome, a hello to our unknown neighbors. I run SETI@home because I believe in the project and want to help out in any way that I can. SETI Rocks!
