Personal background
Hi, I'm Dirk, 36 years and I live in Antwerpen, Belgium.
At the moment I'm studying again (human sciences). In the past completed a course in IT. My hobbies are mainly working with pc's and science(-fiction) but I also enjoy reading (regular books and comics), playing chess, mountainbiking, ice/inline-skating, swimming and camping.
The hardware I use is an AMD Duron 2500XP (Oc'd to 3200Mhz) with 1,2GB of DDR400 system memory and Windows XP Professional.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
A friend of mine told me that he joined the Seti@home project. He asked me if I wanted to participate too. Of course it interested me and so I joined.
About the question on what we should send out as a message I believe that it should be a message that is as universally as possible.
If intelligent extraterestrial life exists, and it is more advanced than us, then it is in our best interest to show them that we are a race that is truly intelligent. Not just in a mathematical/technological way but also in a mental/emotional way.
We are not a very peaceful society at this moment and it is well possible that we have been spotted by ET's already but have been considered to be far to primitive, and dangerous, by them to establish a open contact.
Maybe it is equally important to change the way that we behave on our planet as it is so search the skies before we will have a contact...
Worldwide peace could be a far more powerful signal than the biggest scopes we can build. So why not bet on the two?

Yolan Tru!
