Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think ET life exists, the odds are in its favour. There are too many planets out there to say there can't be. I reckon they will find us before we find them. It is very likely that they have advanced technologies, but also they may be at the same stage we are. A friendship between two civilisations so far apart could bring great advances in both worlds. But these ET's could be hostile, and when they get wind of our current advancement in technologies... and they are superior, any number of things could happen.

I do think a beacon should be sent. We should know what is out there, hostile or not. A simple mathematical problem/pattern should be broadcast. This way the reply will be unique and could not be confused with interferance. This will also determine whether the ET's are able to solve simple problems giving us an idea of how smart they are.

I run Seti@Home for the pure fact that if we just happen to come across a radio signal, then I will know that I played a part in it.
