Profile: Rhys Edwards

Personal background
Greetings! My name is Rhys, it rhymes with peace. I used to think it was a very unique name, but I notice now there's at least one more of us participating in SETI@Home, and on imdb.com there are like 40 of us - just actors!

As of this writing I am 31, happily unmarried, and enjoying some of the best times of my life. I am very interested in astronomy, surfing, and orchid culture. I also watch DVDs a lot, read magazines, and enjoy edumakashunal stuff on tv. I’ve lived all over the US of A and currently call Pennsylvania home, , but one day soon I hope to be able to say the same about beautiful Hawai'i. I work with computers for more hours per day than I'd like, but at least it keeps the cable bill paid.

I’ve been crunching data for SETI@Home for several years now, although there was a break in that time when I only had a dial up connection and I hardly used my PC. Funny how a broadband connection makes the Internet so much more appealing.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe 100% that there is life elsewhere in the Universe. I often consider the size of the Universe and how far away intelligent life is. While I do believe in life, I have trouble believing we'll be in direct contact with intelligent life.

I hope for it - don't get me wrong! What amazing things could we learn from an advanced culture! But I would be personally thrilled just to know for certain there is life out there. And if there's intelligent life that can generate a signal strong enough to reach us, there's bound to be more life in the Universe evolving towards intelligence.

This project is a fantastic way to harness the interest of so many people like me to provide free, mega-computing power - that just keeps getting more powerful!
