Personal background
Hi. I'm currently a supervisor in the Information Technology Department for a district school board. I'm 30 years old, have a 6 year old daughter that lives with me. Despite being extremely busy most of the time I like to give some of my time to SETI. I figure you never know right? I mean how can we be nieve enough to think were the only ones out there. But that would be horribly typical of humans. I don't believe in modern theories of how we came to exist. I don't believe that people and all the different species just decided to exist all of a sudden. I think there is a little more to this whole thing than just a big bang. I'm sure someday we will make contact with another alien race but I can only wish that I'll be alive to see that day. If not at least I can help sift through some of this data and learn other things in the process. It amazes me how civilizations can evolve to a certain point and then competely vanish without a trace. Only to be replaced by a new one that "re-invents the wheel" How many times can we invent something??? I think there are plenty of things to learn from the ancients. Were still a young species and have a long way to go. Lets just hope that maybe we are smarter than a slug. Everything on this planet depends on that. We have the power to become something extrodinary and we also have the power to destroy ourselves. Interesting concept isn't it? Some people have nothing better to do than fight. While others would rather go to the beach....
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
About SETI. I think we have to start somewhere and in order to get somewhere you have to learn how to get there. I think SETI and other programs are the beginning of a bigger understanding. We can't know everything today but we can know something tomorrow. I believe in fate to a point and I think we should be broadcasting a beacon out there. I don't think it will be for a long time before we discover life out there. We will probably find evidence of life on planets in our own solar system first. I think the benefits of finding life out there are great in the understanding of ourselves and the universe. But at the same time I thing we sould be carefull not to jump in too fast when we do because the little green men will more than likely bring little green bugs to make us sick. But I'm sure if they are the ones to get to us that probably won't be much of an issue because they would obviously contain far more knowlege than us. I think SETI is an excellent project. I think there should be more projects like this to analyze data on different areas of research. Distributed Computing can be a very powerfull tool. I run SETI@Home for the what if. I know they are out there it's just a matter of finding them somehow and if there is a chance this can work I want to be involved. Maybe we won't find anything but then again maybe we will....
