Profile: Zulkarnain Alwi

Personal background
I live in a small town called Meru, in the outskirts of Klang Valley, where the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, is located. I'am 32 years old, single & live with my parents. I work as an adsl support technician in a nearby town. I have a small network of 3 PCs at home where I spent a lot of my free time testing softwares like Linux OS & play network games with my 3 younger brothers & 2 younger sisters, some of them married with kids. My mother is a full time house-wife while my father drives a taxi.I went to a local college in June 1990, majoring in electronic enginnering but forced to quit in late 1994 due to poor grades. I was diagnosed as having Schizophrenia in 1990 but gradually recovered if not fully with medication from a local university hospital. I'm a Sagitarius by the way & my life has been revolving around personal computers since 1985 when I was in boarding school in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. Unfortunately I'm not good in programming, just a typical PC technician. I stumble across a movie called "Contact" starring Jodie Foster & fall in love with it and the movie star (I'm a big fan of her). I like to watch anime (japanese animation) & one of my favourite movie is "The Hunt for Red October" starring Sean Connery & Alex Baldwin. I like to listen to old songs like songs by Nat "King" Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, the "Satchmo" Lois Amstrong, Matt Monroe...the list go on & on....(don't forget the anime related songs, i LOVE them all!)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think extraterrestrial life does exist. Ask the folks from Roswell (the alleged crash and recovery of an extraterrestrial vehicle and its alien occupants near Roswell, N.M., USA, in July 1947).

When & How do we discover them? well, to be honest, i think that there MUST be extraterrestrial life somewhere out there in the vastness of the Universe, alive & kicking. & they are doing just fine! minding their own business. The problem is, are they "intelligent enough" to be able to recieve & send back radio signals that we've been sending from earth? or are they intelligent enough to build spacecraft that can travel through space & finds us? They might have already done that in the past (but human beings are not around to see them - except for dinosaurs- the timing is not right) OR they are too small for us to see with the naked eye (size DOES matter) OR they are WAY too far away to be detected with our largest & most powerfull radio telescope. So the answer to those two questions are up to us intelligent human beings to answer.

If we do find them, we might get the opportunity to study them, how they live, their civilization if they're intelligent life forms, in short understand them, & may be we can stop fighting each other & start to live peacefully among ourselves & in a better world. But on the other hand, we might just be facing with an invasion from outer space, the end for Humanity.

Yes, we should transmit a beacon for other intelligent life-form in outer space to find.

I run SETI@home because I believe if we think God made the entire Universe just for us humans and that we are the only ones alive & living, wouldn't it be a terrible waste of space?

This project is good, in fact it's a very noble thing to do. Anyone with a PC & internet connection should support this project 110%. To all the people involved with Seti@Home Project, Keep up the good work! God Bless us all!
Have Peace Will Travel.
