Profile: Duane Reilly

Personal background
I am a 27 year old Unix Administrator from Sydney, Australia. I am originally from outback Queensland (Northern part of Australia), where i grew up. My father first bought me a small hand held telescope when i was all of 14 years old, the views from it were by no means spectacular, but it got me interested in the skies above, and always made me wonder if we are really alone in this universe.

A work collegue got me into Seti at home earlier this year, and as my stats show, my processing time has overtaken my overall time as being a member! i suppose thats one advantage of being a Unix administrator, you have control over some very powerfull number crunching machines. (but thats just between you guys and me!).

My interest in astronomy is as my darling wife Lourdes says, "excessive compulsive" were i have convinced her into letting me buy a 12" LX200 Meade Schmitt Cassegrain Telescope which i took delivery of only a few months ago.
Work is now in progress building a backyard domed observatory, which took alot more wife convincing!

I have only just got into CCD astrophotography, which i will soon be posting on my new website, www.starkraft.com (catchy name hey!). and eventually im going to try to build radio telescope reciever equipment so i can do my own SETI work from home.

After reading back over this, im starting to agree with my wifes "obsessive compulisive" observations of myself...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Damn straight... only a fool could think otherwise.. just because we havent found it, doesnt mean it isnt there..

2. I think we should send messages. Perhaps there are other civilisations out there that are at a similar stage as us, and they are looking for life elsewhere..
the message to send should be anything from Creedence clear water revival... its all good..

3. I think thats pretty obvious after reading my first 2 answers, the project should be given a building full of CRAY supercomputers. And if i had of known about the project earlier, my stats would be a hell of a lot better.
