Personal background
I'm 26 and i'm from Detroit, Michigan. I attend school at EMU majoring in computer science.. I like to play baseball and hockey and other outdoor activities. I have always been interested in astronomy. I've even started to try and photograph some objects with my 8" telescope and my laptop. I hope to help in something larger than myself that actaully has a positive goal.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Extraterrestrial life has to exist.. It's like when everyone thought the world was flat or before we knew about about other people even just here on earth. Your just fooling yourself if you think GOD created the universe just to look at through a telescope and take pretty pictures of it.
I'm not really sure if we will ever find other life in my lifetime, but you have to start sometime.
The danger is that they won't like us and we are like cavemen to them and they come and kill us all like bugs. The benefits are probably more than any of us can imagine...
2. I'm not really sure if we should transmit any signals without knowing what we are talking to..
3. This is one of the few things that seems to actually have something other than profit as the primary goal.. It's nice to do pure science, if i win the lotto someday or make plenty of money in my professional life i'd like to become a full time astronomer...
