Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It would be rather foolish for us humans to believe that we are so unique in such a vast and complex universe that contains billions of galaxies with trillions of stars, and likely billions of planets suitable for some type of lifeforms.

I believe if we do someday 100% confirm an alien transmission that originates from beyond Earth, it will shatter many belief systems. Religions will be forced to rethink their teachings, humans will hopefully become less arrogant in their views, and we will know once and for all that we are not alone.

It is important for humans to submit a beacon directed to other star systems. The signal(s) would be an imprint from Earth that could theoretically last an eternity. Even if the signal isn't received by another civilization until long after the last human on Earth breathed their last breath, it would be worth it in my opinion. I don't think we would be too disappointed if tomorrow we confirm a signal that had been submitted many millennia ago from a long dead world.

I suppose that I run SETI@home due to the fact that it's fun and worthwhile, and all it really uses up is my computer's idle processing time.
