Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
When I heard about this program, I was interested and excited. This was a chance for the average Joe to do something that you read about, or watch on TV. While not as glamorous as being an astronaut, this makes us part of an elite community that includes astronomers and scientists of various fields, and right in the middle of some of the most facinating things in the universe. Answers to so many things are waiting for us to figure out, and this SETI program might find them as they analyse the data. The ultimate goal is to find extraterrestrial life, and I think we will, but I also think that we might help find some other interesting things along the way, and to me this is exciting. The only questions I have is not when, or how, but will we act friendly, or revert to something out of a bad movie. And how will the other life react to us? Our world is not a safe place, I'm not expecting the rest of the universe to be either, but I sure hope so. The ultimate would be to make contact with alien Marines. :)
