| Personal background |
I'm Sebi from Germany and I'm with SETI since the year 1999.
I started to analyse SETI-data with a 120 [MHz] AMD 486 with 8, later 16 [MB] of RAM running Windows 95 (Screensaver). As far as I can remember, I took me 60 to 70 hours to finish one work unit.
Later I updated my system to a 200 [MHz] MMX-Pentium and 128 [MB] of RAM.
With that setup, a single work unit took only 30 hours!!
(I also used this machine for cutting / rendering videos, yes!)
Now I'm running SETI with SETI-Driver and SETI-Spy software instantly on an AMD Athlon 700 [MHz] with 256 [MB] RAM and it only takes 12 to 15 hours for one work unit.
Well, that would be my story of analysing SETI-data from Arecibo Radio Observatory, what is yours? |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I'm running SETI just for fun and to help the ppl.
Actually, today, they wouldn't need my help anymore, because I'm analysing data recorded just a few months ago. That's really fast.
When I started I analyzed data that was recorder one year ago!
So today, it's more the fun-thing that keeps me going.
I think it would be pretty a wasting to give us on earth the whole universe, so I think (just think, don't know!) there surely is someone else out there (maybe behind "the dark side of the moon"?).
But I don't believe in all this future-visions that describe extraterrestrial life as a science-fiction-movie like 'Star Trek'.
Why should E.T. be the future-guy with laser-weapons and beamers?
Why can't we?
Isn't it possible that they still live in good ol' stone-age?
I think that would be also possible.
So why not sending out a nice greeting to say hello.
Maybe we can conversate a little and get to know each other.
Maybe exchanging cookies for christmas someday?
That would be nice. :-) |
