Profile: Kopernik

Personal background
I'm a student at the University of Alberta in B.Sc. general, third year. As my nickname suggests, I am polish and proud of it. I currently live in Edmonton, Canada...home of the Edmonton Oilers and the world's largest mall. I was born in 1980 in Poznan, Poland. My hobbies are martial arts, astronomy, anything outdoors such as hiking and mountain biking. Last summer (2001) I had the chance to hike the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island and near Mt.Assiniboine Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada and I plan to do a lot more. I am a member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (check out the link by clicking my nickname).

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I definitely believe that extraterrestrial life exists somewhere in the Universe. SETI is humanity's best effort so far and therefore I'm happy to be a contributor. However, it may be a long time before we detect evidence of such beings. We might have to make advances in technology before we are capable of such a feat, this might not happen for decades, even then, it will probably be by chance.
