Personal background
I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba , Canada. I am retired from the railway (1993). I worked for the Signals department and was responsible for maintainence of a prototype Computer Aided Dispatching train system. Before that i worked for the C. N. Telecommunications where installed, i serviced and maintained teletype and communication equipment until the summer of 1977.

My main interest is space related information and science related items. I also have an interest in computer programming but i have not decided yet which language i would like to try. I used to program entirely in assembler code when i was working for the railway, we used Computer Automation Equipment at the time. It was mainly making up short programs to diagnose the hardware used at that time. I enjoyed doing assembler as it gave me an sense of closeness to the equipment. Unfortunately there was no compiler available for quite some time so most everything was strictly done by hand.

My other interest is i am a member of an Optimist club in my area. I like doing volunteer work to raise money or help out children.

I like the outdoors and enjoy walking and taking pictures. I also enjoy doing \\"NASA Mars click program, unfortunately they stopped that program. I am now starting to do astronomy as i received a small telescope for christmas.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I find it hard to believe that we are the only ones here. With the vastness of the universe i would hate to think we are alone.

There are always benifits and dangers. Consider the earth itself as a universe. Through exploration in the last several thousand years we have encountered both.

There would it seems not to expect less when considering the actual universe. I think it is because of our increased knowledge and our inability to control outer space as we try to do on earth is what makes it most frightening. We have to let cooler heads prevail and keep up hope for a greater future. We shouldn\\'t be mesmerized or get too cocky with our TV space successes.

It\\'s nice to advertise that we are here and willing to co-operate and advance ourselves. Don\\'t you like to know something about your neighbour. It\\'s just a little farther to go next door at the moment.

I am an avid volunteer and i like to see my equipment work on many aspects as i get to providing my spare computer time to more projects. Personally i will devote more of my computer time to myself. But in the meanwhile i like to offer my spare cpu time to other events as it is running 24 hours a day anyways.

Why not give a hand to a peaceful yet inquisitive project.
