Profile: Culpabilis

Personal background
I am a 42 year old "retired" attorney now working in the computer/software support arena. I am quite new at the SETI@home business but have long been interested in the prospect (and my strong belief) in intelligent life beyond the confines of planet Earth.

I currently live in East Tennessee and enjoy fishing, camping, computer gaming, and watching as many SciFi movies as possible. I have two beautiful daughters. My teenager is a world class High School tennis star and future doctor. The youngest (7 years old) loves to fish, play Diablo II, Unreal Tournament, and Medal of Honor! Who could ask for more?!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believed in the existence of extraterrestrial life before man first set foot on the moon. Obviously, it is anybody's guess as to when humans (outside of the government) will discover extraterrestrial life. Personally, I think it will happen when "they" want it to happen, and not before. I am not of the belief that we should transmit any beacons or signals for others to find as I am not optimistic that any and/or all of the recipients would posses an interest in the well being of humanity should they have the technology to reach us. Where there is civilization, there is government...where there is government, there is a threat. I am not an anarchist; however, I am much more comfortable with a "passive radar" approach to our search for extraterrestrial intelligence.

I run SETI@home because I believe the search for extraterrestrial intelligence is a worthy endeavor that benefits all of mankind. If and when the existence of extraterrestrial life is finally 'publicly' established, it will be a result of the efforts of private organizations and individuals who have no reason to hide the truth from the rest of humanity. I would like to be a part of that...
