Personal background
I'm a 34 year old Computer Enthusiast from Paragould, Arkansas-USA. I Enjoy Hunting, Fishing and Playing Space Strategy RPG Games.

I also Enjoy the Idea that all Computer users can help in such a Tremendus and Important Search that the SETI@home Project has started, which is why i signed up myself.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1). Yes, i think there are "others" out there somewhere. I think though, that discovery will be done by accident. If we truly are being visited by other life forms, they obviously like keeping their secret, and are not ready to reveal themselves to the masses of this world.

The benefits of such a discovery is pretty obvious. Knowledge. The knowledge that they would posess would be quite enourmous. Perhaps this is why they don't show themselves. Maybe we are not ready to handle such knowledge without abusing it like we do everything else........

The Dangers? Would you give such an enourmous knowledge to a person that you know would use that knowledge for something bad? Whether intenional or un-intentional?

2). yes, i think we should send a Beacon. The Information we should send should be a simple one. Just ask the Question of "is anyone there?" Of course, would another being be able to understand, or would they mis-interpret our signal for a hostile one? More Questions with no Real answers......

3). I think my above remarks answers the third Question. :)
