Personal background
We are both from Warner Robins, GA. I (Ryan) am 16 years old and Terry is 44 years old. As you can tell I am a student enrolled in highschool. Terry is an engineer and works for the Core. I don't think we really have hobbies but we do play Axis and Allies alot. We are new to seti and just got our first unit completed. We were wanted to join a group but didn't know which one to join.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes we do believe in extraterrestrial life. We both believe it would kind of be ignorant not to. Space is endless and there has to be something or someone out there. We don't know how humans will discover it but seti is a good step in doing so. Benefits could be endless as well as dangers.
2. Yes they should but there is no way to know what to send. You have no idea how extraterrestrial life would respond to a beacon or if they would. They, meaning extraterrestrial life as a whole, may not have the technology to receive signals. Even if they do there is no way to know if they will understand it. If I was sending the signal I would probably say "Hello nieghbors."
3. We run seti at home because we think it is a good step towards discovering extraterrestrial life and we want to help. We think it is a noble project and it is awesome to see the outcome. Our only suggestion is to keep up the good work.
