Personal background
Hi, I'm a software developer in Calgary Alberta, Canada. One of my hobbies is amateur astronomy. My fascination with astronomy is also why I have an interest in SETI@home.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Discovering intelligent extraterrestrial life would be one of the greatest discoveries ever made. It would significantly change the way we think about the universe and ourselves. Which is why I am contributing to the project. I started out running the SETI@home client occasionally just for fun. I now have a Linux box dedicated to it. Keep up the good work everyone. I will continue to donate cpu cycles as long as you need them.

We have been sending radio/television signals out for decades now. So what may be more important is not that we send a beacon but how we send it. We would want the beacon to be "decoded" at the other end. The technology of another intelligent civilization may not be like ours at all. So how the information that is sent is encoded in the signal needs to be as simple as possible. Not just simple to us but simple to anyone that might analyze the signal.
