| I am a 39-year-old student of life living in the UK in Milton Keynes. I currently work for an Internet based firm that provides a simple method for on-line surveys and the like. I have been interested in computers since I meet my first at school, a Honeywell computer the size of my wardrobe with a staggering 8k of ram, card and tape readers, heaven, showing my age! I am very much what would be termed a geek haven grown up playing the likes of Dungeons & Dragons, computer games, star trek and now the Internet. I also have a keen interest in keeping fit at the gym and outdoor pursuits such as mountain walking. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

| I find it unconceivable that there is no other life in the universe than the life on this small planet we inhabit. If it can happen in one place then it can happen elsewhere. It was the TV series by Carl Sagan, Cosmos, which sparked my interest in the universe beyond Earth. It is not a mater of if there is life out there but when we finally make contact. To that end I have joined the search for life beyond via Seti@Home. The chances of finding signs of life in my lifetime may be remote but like the lottery you have to enter to have a chance. As to the dangers of Contact, well if our limited understanding of the laws of physics turn out to be accurate conversations will be held over periods of decades between messages and contact on a face to face bases will only be via either a generation ship type approach or should we finally realise the promise of suspended animation. Personally I hope this is not the case. |
