Personal background
I'm from Cape Town, South Africa, and have been interested in astronomy and cosmology all my life.

I am privileged to enjoy the friendship of other amateur astronomers all over the world.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes I think life does exist outside our solar system, despite the odds for life to develop - at least the kind of life that we would be able to recognise as such.

I think we will discover evidence of extraterrestrial life and possibly extra terrestrial intelligence through a mixture of application (such as the SETI program and space missions) and serendipity.

Allowing my PCs to process some information that might be of some scientific use, makes me feel even closer to my astronomy buddies since a number of my friends all over the world are also SETI@home members - or allow their computers to work on similar BOINC etc projects.

I believe this kind of international scientific cooperation is the way a lot of science will be done in future. SETI@home and the other, current BOINC programs are only the beginning...
