Personal background
My name is Maria and I spend a lot of time at the department for Contemporary Middle East Studies at the University of Southern Denmark. I work on various projects mainly to do with Arabic CALL tools (Computer Assisted Language Learning). One of those is the VISL-project, Visual Interactive Syntax Learning - give it a try if you need syntax (grammar) analysis in 22 different languages: www.visl.hum.sdu.dk/visl/. I have a MA in ancient Greek language and history, unfortunately not an education followed by loads of job opportunities! I love to travel and the picture is from the Carthage Museum in Tunisia and I found it suitable for this profile ;-)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have always liked to watch movies about the existence of other, hopefully higher, beings - like "Contact" and "The Abyss" because I like the idea that someone is guarding us, even when we don't know how to take care of our world .. who knows, maybe It's name is God, Allah or something else but IT must be there, it can't be that we are the superior beings of the Universe ...?!! My friend told me about seti@home and when I finally got rid of my stoneage Internet connection I wanted to give it a try .. and actually, I find it quite calming to watch the program running between my Arabic sessions :-D
