Personal background
I am a middle age line worker for General Motors. I have been interested in
astronomy for as long as I can remember. In general I am interested in light,
through astronomy, photography, and cutting gem stones. Light, even if it is
simply energetic photons, vibrating at certain frequencies, is fascinating, both
for itself, and through the information it carries.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Over the years, I have swung through both extremes of the arguement of life
through the universe. I do believe that lifeforms are abundunt, but that self-
aware life is a rare creature indeed. If we were to discover life on other
planets of this system I feel that it will simply be looked on as a scientific
verification of the processes of biochemistry. if we were ever to contact
another civilization, certain parts of our society would collapse. Some people,
I feel, would be incapable of losing the idea of man made in the image of "God."
for the rest of the world, it would be the end of a long lonelyness as we finally
find someone else to listen to.
