Profile: Ron Auger

Personal background
I was born the year that Sputnik, and in effect the space race, was launched. I have 3 young children whom I believe will experience in their lifetimes the world-wide epiphany of the discovery extra-terrestrial life (perhaps, even in my lifetime). With the solar system painted on their ceiling and a telescope in their room, I hope I am instilling the same fascination with the universe that I have kept throughout my life (even though the are only 6, 4, and 1 years old).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
As a software engineer, I'd like to say that the distributed computing concept model that Seti@Home is architected under is a great idea
whose time has come! All that cumulative computing power (albeit miniscule individually) across the world while PCs are idle or not even logged on; enlisted, harnessed, and utilized nearly for free! I would hope that the Planetary Society is considering using the same model to further the efforts in other very large data crunching areas -- say cataloging near earth objects!

Keep up the good work!
