Profile: Ray Fredericks

Personal background
I'm a California native living in the Sacramento area, attended UC Berkeley, and currently working for the California state government as a Senior Information Systems Analyst.

I started reading science fiction in the first grade, and I think it provides inspiration (and sometimes a warning) of what the future can be.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
They're out there somewhere! The universe is too big to believe otherwise.

Unfortunately, advanced civilizations may no longer use electromagnetic transmissions for communication, or perhaps the signal-to-noise ratio is too high for our technology to extract coherent signals. We'd be lucky to find a civilization using our communication technology that is broadcasting a discrete signal in our direction with enough strength to reach us.
