Profile: Lynda Carlton

Personal background
I am a 55 year old Transsexual living in New Zealand, who has lead an interesting
life from serving as a Regular Force Volunteer Soldier during the height of the
Vietnam War. I was a Radio & Telegraph Technician in the Royal New Zealand Corps.
I was married and upon leaving the Army I was at different times was a Traffic Cop,
Airport Security, Urban Bus Driver, Bus Inspector, and Courier Driver.
About 15 years ago I changed gender and started my own Shuttle bus business however I changed tack
I decided the long hours were too much and began driving Taxis and Stretched
Limousines for others. As well as driving, I worked as an Executive Secretary.
I now live in a small town on the west coast of the North Island and have a 15ft
Cabin Cruiser which I launch and motor out over the Whanganui River Bar for
a little fishing and lollygagging on the briney.
I am a bit of a computer geek and also assist at my local Church as an organist.
As a Transsexual in New Zealand, life can be a trifle difficult at times as we
are not protected by any form Human Rights protection but by enjoying God's
creation and and being an avid Enterprise fan - ofcourse beginning with Dr Who
(a very early Sci Fi Program) progressing through Blake's Seven to the Star Trek series.
I must admit it does seem strange that nearly every alien in Sci Fi programs
inevitably have perfect North American accents especially if they have never
heard of Earth.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe we are not alone however I am not sure that they will be the benign
benefactors they are sometimes portrayed. I think we need to be more advanced
in Space travel before we dare make a point of advertising our presence more than
we do now via our current E/M transmissions. There is also the possibility
that just as plants atract insects for their own ends from food to propogation
therefore why should the universe be any different with beacons etc.
But hey, like the old Business maxim - Plan for the Worst and hope for the Best!!
