Profile: Laurent

Personal background
My name is Laurent, I am originally from Luxembourg, where I lived and worked 'til the tender age of 26. I was really fed up with life, work and anything else at the time and decided to start my life all over again. So I finally made the big step and moved to Derry in Northern Ireland. I lost weight, changed career, from working as an electrician for Luxembourg City Council to IT Trainer. I always had an interest in computers, I bought my first one when I was 11 (anyone remember the Sinclair ZX81?).

I now really enjoy my life, even though the wages situation over here is pretty bad. But then again, who needs money to be happy? I don't. As long as I've got enough to live kind of comfortably, I don't care.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe that there's life out there. Where and how far I really don't know. Most people assume that if there's life out there it has to be far more advanced than us, but they might just as well still be amoebas, or something similar.

I'd say if we discover them it's probably going to be by chance or because they want to be contacted.

I run SETI@home because I've got too much processor speed and memory :o) No, but serious, I really believe in the project, and because there's not enough funding, we all can do our bit to help.
