Personal background
Background:

I live in Cambridge in England. I work for Pi as a Quality Engineer. Pi manufactures datalogging and control systems for all types of racing, including F1, Indy Car’s, GP500 Bikes, Trucks and Boats etc.
Interests:

As one of my hobbies I like to watch with interest to see how “our cars” are doing, however bike racing has to be my favorite. I have always been fascinated by “space” and what is out their, I would love one day to work on something like the Phoenix Project, to be-able to really help out. But
I do support SETI by being a TeamSETI Charter Associate. doing my little bit to help out!!

In my pastime I do some VB Programming in Access, developing databases and web sits for my friends, I also like to keep up with the latest technology, physics has always been a strong subject of mine and I find Quantum Physics (computing) fascinating, the effects it will have on all our lives will be long lasting & ground breaking & I think this will help to pave the way for space expiration.

I enjoy playing football when not peering through a telescope or looking at news on SETI related stories, I also enjoy walking and finding good pups – going out with my mates and enjoying life!!

Computer Description:

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why do you run SETI@home?

I have always been interested in space so when I herd about SETI@Home I just couldn’t wait for it to be released; as soon as it was I started my little search for ET.

The main reasons for me for running SETI is I feel we all have a responsibility to ensure that when we move into space we at least have some idea in what we are letting our self in for, we must HAVE that level of understanding or it could be the last thing we ever do. This project and other like it will give us a “head start” and I support it 100%, we must be prepared for what’s coming!

Thoughts about ETI:

When we “Make Contact” it will be so devastating for some and so fantastic for others, we are going to have to be so careful in how it is handled, it is going to have to be global as it will have far reaching effects on all, and I’m sure any ETI will understand this as long as the way we communicate our intentions correctly, first contact is the most important stage. As long as we get this right I think we have a good chance of making new friends & I for one hope we do. But what will we be talking to? Will they be like us or so different we hardly recognize them, we will have to put all our history of racial/social conflict behind us & learn to accept something that is different from us, because we will be as alien to them as they are to us.

We are going to have to let everybody know at the same time, break the News with a bang, (you can’t withhold this type of information as people will lose trust in authority handling and then you lose all hope of anybody accepting anything that is said) but then let things sink in and slowly help people to get use to the idea, and understand how this can benefit EVERYBODY if we manage it correctly. But if we don’t…well it doesn’t bear thinking about, but I have no doubts everything will work out because by then we would of grown up as a species!
