| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Ok, I will answer all the questions one at a time.
1) Yes, I think in all the vastness of the universe there has to be other life. Infact, I think extraterrestrials have already visited the Earth and are most likely here now. I don't know when that fact will come to light, but I hope I am the one that finds the signal :)
2) Yes, we should transmit a beacon for others to find. But like I said earlier, I think they have already found us.
3) I run Seti@Home because I have always been interested in Astronomy. I think the first time I laid out under the stars I was hooked. As far as my views on the Seti Project, I am glad that private funding became available to keep it going. The person that came up with the software idea and having anyone with a PC help is a genius. I am surprised that there aren't more agencies doing this for their projects. To me, many small computers are better than one really large computer. Granted a CRAY computer can process a WU faster, but when you have 3million users helping out with their own pc's you get more done. |
