Does extraterrestrial life exists? Well who knows? Will we discover life outside our planet? Hope so! Benefits of such a discovery would be that it would make a pretty interesting documentary show. Dangers of such a discovery? The show could be butchered and made into something pretty boring (much like watching golf on TV)
Should we transmit a beacon for others to found? Sure, as long as it doesn't give me cancer or something. The information we should send from this beacon should be something like "send Dean Thomas all your money, he needs it to buy more computer parts!"
Why do I run Seti? For the thrill of it, and besides I loved ET
