Personal background
My name is Josh Barron. I'm originally from Mountain Home AFB, Idaho and currently live in Boise, Idaho. I'm 20, and have lived in 7 or 8 different places by the age of 15 (military brat).

I'm employed as the Level 2 Supervisor for Velocitus Broadband Inc (http://www.velocitus.net) and have been there about 2 and half years. Before Velocitus, I was a testing specialist for a small .com known as Mindcrossing.

Hobbies included gaming, technology, journalism, and spending time with my fiance. I was involved in a top high school newspaper production program for 2 years and love photography (abstract, outdoor). I'm majoring in Business with a minor in computer science from Boise State University.

I'm currently involved in a small DC program attempting to create a mini (yet powerful) beowulf style computing environment with a low cost / high performance ratio. I'm looking for help and suggestions, ideas, donations, etc.
Any assistance will be credited directly at the projects website (once its up).
I can be contacted at d1vine@qopinc.com every day at least until midnight and after 8AM.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
SETI is quite possibly one of the greatest endeavors mankind has taken in the information age and possibly of all time. The search for extraterrestial life is one of grave importance to all of us for humanity to play an important role in the history of our galaxy and universe. We have become a society of communication and information, and an institution such as SETI is an integral piece of a much larger and still emerging picture.

A breakthrough on the magnitude of the discovery of alien life would rival that of fire, electricity, flight, and the internet. We must be responsible and tread with caution, whilst making sure the project is international and ethical. One man or woman in control of this discovery cannot provide the world with any benefits and would quickly be overcome with greed and power. The search must be methodical, yet manageable; breathtaking, yet believable.

I'm not sure if humans should tranmist a beacon for others to find. Humanity is a brutal species, and has not overcome its own thirst for its domination over itself. That trait could be inherently dangerouns when encountering a civilization that has long passed this phase of its self development.

I run SETI@home because i firmly believe in the distibuted computing project. SETI@home is by far the most successful and quite possibly the most important (save a search for the cure of cancer or AIDS) yet.
