Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think life exists out there somewhere, and I think it will be found using programs like Seti.
We share our existance on this planet with many other life forms at present and we still cannot communicate with them at this time, perhaps we will discover that they are already in some form of communication with off world civilisations already.

As to whether humans should transmit a beacon for others to find, have we not already been doing so for the last century ? in radio and television broadcasts, I wonder what distant life forms would make of our sci-fi movies and news broadcasts from war zones. I would think the may decline to contact us given our past history.

I personally run SETI@home in the hope that we will find a brotherhood of man so to speak, a friend, a partner, a guide to help us keep this lush blue planet alive.
