Personal background
I am a student at Cornell studying History with a concentration in European Studies. I play in the Jazz Band, am a member of the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity, and write for the Daily Sun (school paper). I'm currently taking an astronomy class with Professors Bell and Squires who are lead scientists on the mission to Mars planned to launch this summer.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extraterrestrial life is very likely to exist by mere probability, however the chance that it is intelligent and that we (or they) will make contact is significantly small, although I support SETI as an interesting project using Cornell's Araceibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico. There's no harm in transmitting a beacon. The likelihood of an agressive alien population dominating the Earth is less likely than us humans destroying civilization with our own weapons.
