| I was dropped off at birth on this backwater planet called Earth. It is inhabited by many forms of life including a dominant form of sentient being called man. Apparently I am one of them as well so God help us all, lol. I am now 53.4 solar cycles and provide necessities for myself through various forms of self-employment. There's an incredible metal found on this planet the inhabitants call GOLD and they cherish it above most other natural element forms. So much so they adorn their bodies with it as well as many of their other possessions and will even kill and die for this element. It's a fascinating element and has many uses in the society here. I too have a fascination with it but mainly in finding it more so than just having it. Maybe it's like finding peltites on Ursa Major or boltec granules on Aborrateum. I guess every planet has some form(s) of fascinating element(s), which its inhabitants covet above all others. Another element cherished here is one of pure compressed carbon they call diamond. It can be cut and faceted into many forms and is very pretty to view but I still prefer finding GOLD, mainly because it's more likely to be found in areas closer to those inhabited by the indigenous civilization. This corporeal form of existence has many drawbacks but also has many benefits too. Sadly this civilization has not had any "formal" contact with any others from other planets yet. It is also a blessing to observe and partake in a pre-contact civilization. Its naive view of self-centered ideology is amusing and yet sad in the fact it lacks more knowledge of the universe. This is where it shines somewhat though as it does try to find and access more knowledge about what it does not know including more information about the universe itself. One such attempt is an operation known as SETI and I partake in it in a small role using archaic personal forms of computational devices called computers. These are used to process various signals of low forms of radiation they detect coming from distant star systems and other astronomical entities to see if they are possibly forms of attempted communication from other sentient beings and civilizations. Quite simply they are looking towards the future and hoping someone or something out there blinks and looks back. Here's waving at you all out there! |

I participate in SETI to help promote mankinds attempt at both self-realization and contact with other sentient civilizations in the universe.
Like many parts of man's civilization SETI is flawed in many ways but it's a step in the right direction and keeps the search for initial contact alive. It's a shame that the radio antenna can only cover a very small percentage of the sky. This limits the number of stars which can be observed.
Redirect the antennas to the astronomical body known as Orion and concentrate on the star cluster that makes up the "belt". Also disperse 5 to 25 degrees around Orion itself. It is most likely that the ruling bodies who govern other civilizations have banned contact with this planet and require all communications to be hidden and protected against potential discovery by this planet. After all, the dominant sentient species on this planet has no problem on a daily basis using, capturing, incarcerating, killing and even eating all other species on the planet including it's own members. Would you feel safe visiting a planet or a civilization like that? LOL |
