Personal background |
My name is Karl Mikaelsson, age 18, I come from a small village called Dorotea in the northern part of Sweden, where, according to statistics, people doesn't live (less then 1 inhabitant per square kilometer). I go to upper secondary school in Arjeplog, a village of about the same size, but 300 kilometers further north. The school is called "Bilsystemteknik", which is roughly translated into "Car System Technology". At this particular program, which by the way is unique for the whole world, we study with cooperation from major car and car component producers, such as Porche, Bosch, BMW, Mercedes, the VAG group (Volkswagen, Audi, Seat) and Rover, which have their winter testing located in the Arjeplog area. To give you a brief explanation about how big this thing is for Arjeplog, is to give you the number of inhabitants compared to the number of car testers. Arjeplog's normal population of 3300 grows to, at maximum, around 5000 when the ices are thick and the conditions are the best. And no, we don't have polar bears walking the streets. :P |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I'll try to answer all three questions at the same time... for first, my opinion is that, extraterrestrial life does not have to exists, but the probability is much larger then possibility not. Second, I think that humans should transmit a beacon for others to find, simply to show that we are here, and we are trying to say hello. Whatever all sci-fi movies say about evil aliens, I have trouble imagining the aliens of pure evil. I run SETI@home because I think it is a most interesting project, and when my computer is idle, I might as well put it to use. And you never know, maybe will you be the one who discovers alien signals? |
