Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In a Universe so vast that it is beyond human comprehension, I cannot bring myself to believe that extraterrestrial life doesn't exist. Only those of closed mind and fearful reluctance to accept the fantastic will claim to believe that the Earth is the only source of life in the Universe.

If we aren't willing to announce our own presence, why should we expect to encounter such an announcement from another species? I believe we should indeed announce our presence. To claim "safety and security" as the reasons for not doing so is nonsense, an excuse dressed up in spin to make people feel better about their primal fears. We must have faith in the Universe, for if we don't then we have no right to discover and communicate with others. As for what to send - I doubt the meaning behind anything we send will be comprehended by its recipients in the desired fashion. One must remember that an alien mind is just that - alien. Other beings will not think as we do, thus a simple, perhaps strictly mathematical, message will be enough to get the point across.

I run this program because I believe in the spirit of the search - to explore with constant vigilance and dedication, for if we stop, who knows if we shall ever start again? Of course, as I already stated, we really should be transmitting our own message at the same time, but this will have to do for now.
