Personal background
I am a 20 year old Computer Science Junior at the University of Memphis.
I run a disc jockey company outside of the Memphis area and work part time at a local movie theatre. Occasionally I play vinyl at downtown clubs(I'm not to young to own records, though digital is the way to go.) My hobbies include trying to learn/experimenting with new programming languages, watching movies and trying to be less of a nerd.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Without a doubt I believe ET life exists, the probability of such is so high.
Now when we discover them may be a different question. I believe we will discover them or vice-versa, but the chance of it being in my lifetime is too high. We are a new civilization when it comes to trying to recieve/communicate with ETs. We are definately headed in the right direction though. We should definately send a signal out as well. I simple, powerful, repetative message should be sent. ETs will mostly likely only find us if they are specifically looking as well. We can learn by our own investigation by what to send, by what we are looking for now too. I run SETI@home to try to help in the search. I run it on my 3 home computers and laptop concurrently. (If only the ported it to my PDA :) This project is great, and it actually lets the public help-out in a united project. Only suggestion would be to put a Graphical toggle on-off for the win/mac screensavers (to speed up processing during blank-screen time). Otherwise this is a great project and I hope we find something soon!
