Personal background
Well,
we are a family unit. Since momma and the two oldest must give up time on the computer in order to make participation in the SETI@Home program possible. So, there is Papa-41, Momma-34, Nicole-15, Elizabeth-9, Little Raphael-6, Emily-5 and no more...whew! :) While Momma and I are no longer together; we remain the best of friends and do much together as friends and with the children. I left the computer for the children, but they share until I get another.

We are from Alaska, USA. A very beautiful place with much of nature right beside us in our everyday life.

We all love to spend time stargazing, going to the library, going on picnics to the parks, swimming in the cold rivers, watching scary movies, and doing the spontaneous.

I also enjoy writing off the wall prose, practicing with water colors and pencils. Reading is very enjoyable. Listening to a variety of music and dancing is great for the spirit!

Momma enjoys writing and good conversation with friends.

Nicole loves music, reading, chatting with her friends and hi adventure-as I believe most teenagers do, to the consternation of their parents:) She loves a challenge and puzzles of any kind intrigue her.

Elizabeth adores her dolls and friends. She loves to socialize and appreciates books and movies of high quality. She never turns down a good fairy tale! She is very nuturing towards wildlife and humans alike.

Little Raphael is an adventurer and super hero at all hours of the day and night. He enjoys roughhousing and performing feats with a dare devil flare. Much to the regret of our hospital pocketbooks, not to mention the gray hairs he has gifted us with-free of charge!

At last we come to Emily, the child who does not understand the word no or the word impossible! All the things are possible with her. She loves her kitty and adores her siblings, but she tenacious when they try to boss her around! She is a dancer at heart and is quite expressive in her dance. She loves classical as well as reggae.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that extraterrestrial life may exist; I believe it is possible but not a must. Momma answers a definitive yes; as do the children. With time, our chances of discovering et life, if it exist, increases dramatically. In all probability they will discover us first.

Religion will be the most challenged by the discovery of extraterrestrial life. For the better I hope. The political arena will be close second. In the long run all things will be affected by the prescence of out worldly life. There is danger in the fact that we have no surety that any discovered life is going to be friendly. Obviously, we could be eliminated by an unfriendly life form. The benefits are unknown. The Indians did not benefit, a situation repeated many times over in other parts of the world, from the advanced technology of other civilizations.

I personally, do not believe a beacon is advisable. It is a mistake to believe that any civilization capable of interstellar space flight is a peaceful civilization. There are too many variables, known and unknown-as science as proved with every new discovery more questions are raised than answered. We cannot grasp the biology and its effect on other lifeforms. Look at us now. We are not even sure whether or not life exist in our own solar system.

We chose to participate in SETI at home because we were intrigued and excited about the possibility of discovering extraterrestrial life. We not so much interested in being the computer that finds ET-the odds alone say otherwise-but more to be a part of the team effort of increasing the chance that someone will discover life.
Momma and Nicole think: There should be a beacon of some type. Because it increases our chances of making contact with alien life. and they also say"Good luck, good luck to us all!"
(so much for the autocratic state:)
