I belive other forms of life exist, but whether they are similar enough to us to even exist let alone communicate the same way I doubt very much.
Hopefully the benefits of finding and communicating with other civilisations would well out way the bad, after all we havent done so well over the centures to live in peace and harmony with our fellow beings or keep our planet as we inherited it, have we.
