Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think that extraterrestial life exists and I think it is naive of us to think we are the only ones here, I think that we will discover it in my lifetime, probably through schemes like seti, we will detect life but they won't be walking down the street, it will possibly be radio waves or something like that. The benefits are if they are advanced enough they may have cures for illnesses, they may have knowledge of metals and alloys we have never heard of, also it would be so exciting to know that other life exists out there.
The dangers of discovering we are are not alone is that if they are more advanced goverments will panic and fight wars to gain their knowledge and turn it on them, they may have precious minerals or energy sources and as the earth is running out of their things we will do all we can to replace these things, we are ruining our own planet, we may want to find another planet to spoil.
Maybe they could teach to respect our own planet and live in peace.
