Personal background
My name is Scott Trimble and I live in beautiful Marin County, California. I was born in San Francisco in April 1977, raised in San Rafael, and educated at U.C. Berkeley where I was graduated with a degree in archæology. I now work as a Location Scout and Production Coordinator for both independent and studio feature films (including High Crimes, The Matrix Reloaded, Dr. Dolittle 2, and The Sweetest Thing). When I'm not working, I do extensive traveling around the United States. I also enjoy genealogy research, running, biking, juggling, reading, cooking, and watching too many movies.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does extra-terrestrial life exist? Definitely! This planet of ours is absolutely teeming with lifeforms. In this infinite universe, it's ludicrous to believe that they couldn't have developed elsewhere.... Around October 1995, when the first extra-solar planet was discovered, I broke down and cried since I was so happy that we finally had real evidence that our solar system was not unique. And how many more planets have been found since then? Dozens. Whether single-celled organisms or alien equivalents of lichen, jellyfish, or rodents, it's only a matter of time now before our technology improves to the point where we can actually find life on these other planets or their moons. As for other forms of intelligent life, I expect them to be found too someday. Humanoid, but with green blood and pointy ears? I doubt it. Looking like the creatures of the supposed Roswell spaceship crash? I doubt that too since I believe most U.F.O. encounters to be the modern-day equivalent of trolls and goblins. I expect that they will be very different from anything we can possibly imagine. Thus, I am very pleased about the existence of SETI and the SETI@home program. These are among our first steps towards this exciting future. I have installed SETI on all five computers that I have access to (and they are all lumped together here in the rest of the "STST2" group, which means my personal total is closer to 1,100 units) and I keep encouraging others to download it also.
