Profile: Bill Eustis

Personal background

I joined SETI@home two and a half months after it's inception on May 15 1999. I'm a Technical Consultant (mostly for Unix systems)and a part time coder. I love astronomy, physics and mathematics. In fact I processed the first 200 or so SETI units by hand on my TI-83 ;]

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

Consider that there are probably at least several billion[/i] galaxies in the Universe and that each galaxy contains around a billion stars[/i], what then are the odds that sentient life exist elsewhere in the Universe? The question in my mind isn't whether or not they exist but whether or not they are close enough to be detected given the vast distances involved.
