Personal background
I am by profession a Registered Nurse and I function in that capacity in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. I guess mainly I am a humanitarian at heart. I am 31 years old and live in an "out-of-the-way" place called Cottondale, Alabama. I like to hike, photograph nature, horse-back riding, reading, traveling, and almost anything related to computers.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Sagan said it best, "If there is no extraterrestrial life, then, it sure is a waste of all that extra space." I am quite spiritual and to a lesser degree religious, Methodist by practice, and I feel that the creator of the universe would not want His creation to be alone. He made Eve to be companion to Adam, He sent the animals into the ark in pairs, therefore, to be so self-important as to think that there is no companion life in the universe is a narrow vision of existence. If one does not believe in the Bible or some other religious text, then all of this happened by accident and from what I know, accidents happen all the time. So, given the limitless accidents than are happening on an almost infinite number of worlds, a few amino acids getting together to form life on another world does not seem beyond belief.

This project, if success in finding extraterrestrial life, could challenge most everything we believe. However, knowledge makes humans powerful allowing us to exceed our limits and therefore, SETI and SETI@home is an invaluable endeavour. It makes no difference if we find what were looking for, it is the search that makes us...Human.
