Personal background
I'm from Houston. I'm 26. I like muscle cars, fixing stuff, and learning about the universe - most of which I do through a little 4.5" Orion short tube relfector.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think ET lives? Well, it doesn't make a great deal of sense that our one little planet is teaming with flora and fauna and the rest of the universe barren.

As far as I know, we could wipe ourselves out before we find ET, but I seriously doubt we'll really make contact with ET before becoming a type II civilazation.

A beacon might be a wasted effort as we regularly transmit radio waves everyday into outerspace. But an intentional message might be, "Come to Earth, and meet all of the Human race."

I run SETI on the off chance we might catch something. And I believe in getting something for nothing, which also means I believe in giving something for nothing. I consider the project to be a step in the right direction. I would suggest creating an agency based on the advancement of civilization which harps on the human desire for purpose rather than the accumulation of power.
