Profile: Dowser

Personal background
I live in Middlebury, Vermont. I am 45 years old and have worked as a professional geologist for the past 23 years. I like to ski, hike, and garden. My wife Laurie is a nurse and I have three great children, Ben Mary Kathryn and Gracie. I am also an ordained minister. One cannot help but stand in awe at the Creator's work. Such beauty, such complexity, such design.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I see no reason that other life could not exsist elsewhere in the universe. However, given the delicate balance of natural conditions and natural laws that exist where we live in direct support our lives, I believe other areas of life in the universe would also be simliarly designed to support such life, a created existence. Given the size of the universe that we can see, why would God not create life elsewhere? Discovery of other life would carry the same benefits as all scientific discovery does. The only danger comes from ingorance, and any subsequent unloving actions by humans.

I think we already transmit enough of a 'beacon' just by being here; we will ultimately be observed by other civilizations with the required technology, if they are out there and looking for us.

I run SETI@home because it is easy, takes little from me, and seems worthwile.
