Profile: Bob Merklin

Personal background
Live in Ware, Missouri, am 52 years old, ugly as a bear with a disposition to match. Spent 10 years in the Marine Corps, another 10 as an automotive mechanic, and the last 15 as just a mailman.
Don't enjoy hunting as much as I used to, but really enjoy fishing and target shooting. Like reading science fiction, history and technical books. Have gotten very interested in computers and how they work, and thoroughly enjoy diagnosing problems in them or in any kind of machinery.
Am completely disinterested in political correctness, team sports, opera, dancing and everything else that tends to be socially interactive ot culturally elevating.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I have no doubt whatsoever that extreterrestrial life exists. I think it is more likely thay they will discover or contact us first.

2. As far as transmitting a beacon, why not? I want to know what's out there as soon as possible. If they're friendly, we would no doubt benefit from the encounter. If they are not friendly, well, I think that could be fun, too. And maybe more interesting.

3. I run SETI because it involves a subject in which I am extremely interested, and because I would like to share in the excitement if something is discovered through it. If not ET's, I am sure that something of scientific interest
will be found.
