Personal background
I always find it hard to put a name to what I do - I guess it's suffice to say that I'm an IT professional, which covers MOST of what I do. I'm currently employed by Canon in Australia, where I run Seti@home on several machines of varying persuasion and vintage.

I have two perfect children (and several imperfect ones... just kidding), a beautiful wife who happens to be my soul-mate, and I live on the New South Wales Central Coast.

I'm a beginner amateur astronomer, I despise plastic people, I think most managers need a kick up the clacker and a lot more training, I'm not much of a gardener, I have a love-hate relationship with cigarettes (which I keep at a distance by refusing to buy them, but steal other people's instead), and I wish I had a fireplace because I really miss open fires during winter.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I refuse to believe ET doesn't exist - the universe is just too damn big for there NOT to be other life out there. As for whether it's INTELLIGENT life, well, that's the hundred-thousand dollar question isn't it?

I don't think we'll meet ET in my life-time, but love to think we'll find a sign that he's out there before I go!

Should we be transmitting? We already are on a multitude of frequencies, and in every direction. It's just a matter of time. The question is, will we be considered interesting enough to visit? I think we'd appear completely insane to an observer - but maybe they'll find that charming... Who knows.
