Personal background
Lo all,
Thought it would be interesting rather than talking about myself and my background talking about my beliefs instead and also where they started. I first started thinking about life on other planets when I was about 10 and read one of my Dad’s books. My interested had been peaked at this age however I didn’t further my knowledge until I turned about 17. By this time I had started reading books on Egypt and how the pyramids where build and it was during this time that I came to my conclusions about life on other planets. I would first like to say however that I do NOT think we are alone, simply because there are to many planets and to many galaxies out there for us not to be the only intelligent life. I think however there may be variations on intelligent in that you could quite easily call Dolphins intelligent and in my opinion they are, however we are totally unable to communicate with them. This is what I think we will more than likely find rather than people like us doing what we do. Another good reason is that we are only about 100,000 years old however the universe is something like 15 billion! I think you must have a rather active imagination to think that we are not alone!

Then however there was my encounter experience! Well I wouldn’t say encounter but I would say UFO sighting. I was sitting in my car looking out to see on a nice dark evening in the hills near where I live and saw this star in my rear view mirror. I got out the car and looked at it however it had moved and I didn’t see it until it had moved overhead. Once it was overhead it moved away and up, well it seemed like up, slowly turning red until it had disappeared. Seeing that made me think about what is REALLY going on out there in space however what it is and whether or not we are alone I really do hope will be solved with programs such as SETI.

Regards,
Paul
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I started running SETI@Home about 3 years ago at my last job, however stopped for a few months when I moved to my current job and have been running it ever since. I would also like to point out that I have now done 740 ish units! I feel like programs like SETI are all well and good however I don’t think anything will e found simply because we are a relatively young civilisation and there is a good chance that any other civilisation is allot older and therefore more advanced than us and I am sure that they wont use radio communication to speak!

As for signalling them well that in my opinion is interesting because as I recall Hitler sent out the first TV waves which means that an alien's first visible contact with Earth will be a madman making a speech! What an introduction that will be :(
